The Have Faith Haiti Mission would like to extend its sincerest thanks to Dr. Keri Miller of East Alabama pediatric dentistry in Auburn, AL for her recent work at the Have Faith Haiti Mission. One of the Mission’s children, Esterline, fell and broke her two front teeth. A local dentist’s suggested solution was to pull one tooth and perform a root canal on the second, which would put Esterline through much unnecessary pain and dental work. With the help of Dr. Miller, who has helped the Mission in providing dental care for the children, Estreline’s teeth were bonded and repaired, and her smile is as beautiful as ever.
Our sincerest thanks to Dr. Miller and her team for all their wonderful work.
The Detroit Muscle Crew returned to the Have Faith Haiti Mission to continue working on the mission’s school, which has finally opened. From October 28 until October 31, the crew finished the electric system, installed a generator (the mission’s old generator–since replaced–and repaired for use in the school), put in new flooring, installed blackboards, set up new desks.
Despite fears that the shipping container could be held up in customs in Haiti, it arrived safely at the Have Faith Haiti Mission. Too large to fit through the mission’s gates, staff lined up to unload the container, filled with your generous donations and other necessities purchased by the mission through the Have Faith Haiti wishlist.
October 31, 2011 was a landmark day! The HFH Misson’s new school opened after nearly a year’s construction. It features three air-conditioned classrooms, stocked with desks, blackboards, creative stations and many modern education tools, thanks to your generous donations. We currently operate two levels, 3-5 year olds and 6-8 year olds, with four hours a day of English language instruction and three hours of French, math and social studies. More help is needed for continued operation. But this, as much as anything we do, will change the future for our children. Thank you all!
The children also celebrated their first Halloween!
The first of four trips to the Have Faith Haiti Mission in 2011 is set for January 10-13. The entire Detroit Muscle Crew— seventeen men ready to work—will return to continue the repairs begun nearly a year ago. They’ll be joined by a medical team who will set up a regular medical and dietary program designed to care for the continued growth and development of the orphanage’s children. This first trip will set the foundation for the mission’s new operations, made possible by the generous donations from our community. Roger Penske of Penske Auto has graciously donated the plane and fuel to transport the volunteers and supplies. (more…)
